3. MACAU:
Kun Iam Statue
http://www.hillmanweb.com/asia2018/macau/m03.html

The Kun Iam statue pays homage to Kun Iam – the Chinese Buddhist God of Mercy.  It was created in March 1999 by Cristina Rocha Leiria and stands about twenty metres high. The statue was made to promote mutual respect and friendship among all peoples of different cultures and civilizations. It looks like gold – but is made of bronze. The shape of the dome is like a lotus flower.

There is a small visitor centre underneath that tells the story of the statue project and a little about Guan Yin, the goddess and symbol of peace and forgiveness in Buddhism.

The statue is located on a small artificial island by the Outer Harbour between Macau and Taipa along Avenida Dr Sun Yat Sen.
