Our
Cancun, Mexico, Adventure was an all-inclusive 10-day adventure via WestJet
- a Canadian airline which flew us directly from Winnipeg to Cancun Airport.
The package included return air fare, land shuttles, and a room at Blue
Bay Resort situated at Riviera Maya on the Caribbean Sea and which lies
north of the main tourist strip: The Cancun Hotel Zone. We had full use
of the resort facilites, pools, beaches, bars, waterpark and the nightly
theatre shows. All meals and drinks were included.
Upon our arrival at the airport we were met by an offical
looking man in uniform who directed us to an elaborately-decorated counter.
Thinking it was part of the customs process we went along but soon discovered
that the functon of the desk was to "trap" visitors into one of those notorious
time share sales that we had seen so often in Florida, Las Vegas, etc.
Since we had no tour plans we agreed to attend one of their breakfast spiels
in a luxury hotel on the strip.
We soon convinced the sales woman that we were poverty-stricken
Canucks -- definitely not a good prospect for making foreign investments.
In return for listening to the sales pitch we were to receive full use
of a luxury hotel on the strip for a day: three meals, beaches, shops,
shows and time to explore the strip. We also received free tickets for
a ferry ride and tour of the island, a bus trip and guided tours of the
Chichen Itza pyramids and also the historic Tulum site, along with full
shuttle service back to Blue Bay Resort and Cancun City.
The photo galleries that follow record the photos we
took on during our Cancun Adventure.
