TOP 20 HOTTEST FEMALE GUITARISTS
Ref: Guitar World Magazine

Ani DiFranco - This crunchy folk-punk hero is known for her percussive licks and rousing protest songs.

Anna Kjellberg - Kjellberg's capable hands delivered Drain STH's heavy, melodic low end.

Carrie Brownstein - As one half of the axslinging duo in Sleater-Kinney, Brownstein served up some feminist-positive messages and positively searing licks. Photo: Comtesse DeSpair

Corin Tucker - Sleater-Kinney's other six-stringer is known for her angular guitar style and distinct vocal vibrato.

Corinne Bailey Rae - This English singer/songwriter stole the critics' hearts with her breezy vocals and eclectic, acoustic guitar-tinged pop, which she showcased on her 2006 self-titled debut.

Dolly Parton – In her 45 years in the music business, this living legend has scored nearly as many Top 10 country albums…to say nothing of the fact that she erected Dollywood, a theme park in her own image.

Emmylou Harris - Another country legend, this Alabama-born singer/songwriter has collaborated with some of the best songwriters of the last half century, including Gram Parsons, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Willie Neson and Mark Knopfler.

Fallon Bowman – Most recently this ex-Kittie guitarist has been seen handling the axwork in her own Ontario-based industrial metal outfit, Amphibious Assault.

Gabriela Quintero – The rhythmic heart of acoustic guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela, Gabriela has a hybrid-flamenco technique that includes lots of percussive, slapping finger work.

Jenny Lewis – This former child actor (remember Troup Beverly Hills?) traded in her thespian ways for rock-and-roll stardom as frontwomen for successful indie rockers Rilo Kiley.

Joan Baez – Prominent Sixties protest folkie Joan Baez has an impressive resume that includes over 30 albums, a lifetime of passionate activism and an early, long-lasting relationship with Bob Dylan.

Katty Besnard – As the singer/guitarist for all-female French rock group Plasticines, Besnard leads her group as they create upbeat indie/garage rock inspired by classic bands like the Kinks.

Katy Perry – The fetching pop vocalist behind such hits as “I Kissed a Girl” and “Hot N Cold” is no stranger to grabbing a six-string and banging out some chords.

Madonna – Not only can she sing, dance, write a hit song and talk in a faux-British accent, but the material girl can also wield a mean ax when necessary.

Miki Berenyi – Fronted by singer/guitarist Miki Berenyi, British shoegaze band Lush put out three dreamy, fuzz-filled and heavily melodic records during the Nineties on taste-making indie label 4AD.

Poison Ivy – As the guitarist for garage/shock punks the Cramps, Poison Ivy delivered the psychobilly licks over which her husband/frontman, the recently departed Lux Interior, wailed.

Sharin Foo – Danish two-piece the Raveonettes mix Fifties biker-culture imagery, the Everly Brothers' vocal harmonies and the Velvet Underground’s love of distortion to create their new old-school garage rock sound. Foo shares guitar, bass and vocal duties with Sune Rose Wagner.

Sheryl Crow – This Missouri-born singer/songwriter melds country, rock and pop into tasteful tunes that have garnered the guitarist multiple Grammy Awards.

Taylor Swift – Swift’s infectious country pop songs have catapulted the 19-year-old performer to the top of the charts. In 2008 alone, sales of Swift’s 2006 self-titled debut and last year’s Fearless reportedly topped four million units.

Tina Weymouth – As bassist for Talking Heads and Tom Tom Club Tina
