1. While we were out wandering
in the yard and taking pictures, Shahedah was busy cooking curry for lunch.
It was amazing! Shahedah
also made Ikan Bilis - crack anchovies! - a mixed veg dish and rice.
Fresh mango for dessert.
2. Shahedah in her "wet" kitchen.
The other kitchen is "dry" kitchen
- no cooking done, but more for desserts, drinks, fruit.
.
Addictive Malaysian Ikan Bilis
- deep fried crispy anchovies. YUM!
Kerry and Shaheda buy these
gutted, headless and dried from a fishing village close by.
These can also be deep fried
then simmered in a spicy sauce. Both are delicious!
1. Curry chicken, potatoes,
curry leaves.
2. Petai and shrimp in chili
sauce.
Petai is the seed inside what
looks like broad beans.
I shelled them and Edah cooked.
Petai acts in the same manner
as asparagus - smelly pea!
But they are so good.
.
1. Rice and mixed egetables
- all go well together.
We had this for a late lunch
as we had a late breakfast of roti challa (bread and curry lentil dip)
2. Chinese Okra, veg, rice noodles,
and tofu makes for a balanced meal!
.
Crispy fish, like halibut, that
was caught by family member.
Edah pan-fried it until the
outside is crispy.
Later in the evening, Kerry
drove us to one of their favourite snack shacks
for roti jalal - a lacy crepe-like
bread.
1. This lady rents a space from
the outdoor restaurant, just making roti and chapati, 7-11 am, and 5-11
pm.
2. The pan is huge and she's
very quick using the special funnel to create the lacy "pancake" - roti
jalal.
.
1. Swift hands make for beaurifully
thin strands.
2. The batter covers the entire
pan surface.
.
1. Once golden, the whole "pancake"
is flipped, then folded.
2. Served on a plate with curry
dip.
.
1. Bill's got the knack!
2. YUM ! We had iced Melo to
drink with the roti jala.
3. Roti jala with iced Melo.
Perfect!
.
.
1. The restaurant owners and
family are amused by our camera work.
THEY cook rice and noodles dishes.
2. The menu board at this roadside
food stall.
Divide each price by 3 and you
will get the cost in CDN.
.
1. Along this street are other
food stalls.
This street has the hospital,
so likely business can be brisk.
Our roti lady is from Myanmar,
to Thailand, to Malaysia.
She met her husband in Thailand.
He's a fisherman,
and they have a 7 year old daughter
who is attending Chinese school.
2. Everyone rides a scooter
or motorcycle.
Scary for drivers when some
don't have
headlights, tail lights, and
wear dark clothing!
.
MALAYSIAN BUFFET
While in SP, a large centre,
Sunga Pantai
We stopped in for lunch, a kind
of buffet, all Malaysian food.
The menu.
An assortment: Sue-On took two
crispy looking fish, small fellas, and they were like Chinese salted fish
All pretty good. Lots of chicken
dishes.
I think the difference from
the food we've been eating is more chili sauce,
while the other is more Indian
curry. You are charged by the item.
