Bill and Sue-On Hillman's
Folk Odyssey 2004
(Bio from the Festival Programme)
A tour through the Bill and
Sue-On Hillman Website -- The Hillman Musical Odyssey at hillmanweb.com
-- will give the visitor an idea of the wildly eclectic musical background
and interests that this Brandon duo brings to their stage shows.
Since their marriage, almost
40 years ago, they have spread their unique brand of prairie music across
Canada, USA and the UK via performing tours -- playing countless TV and
radio shows, outdoor festivals, concert halls, military bases, English
workingman clubs, arenas, rodeos, and exhibitions. Along the way they have
also recorded 12 albums of largely original material.
Although they perform a variety
of musical genres, like many musicians, they always welcome a chance to
return to their musical roots. This has resulted in the Folk Odyssey set
they have prepared for this year's Folk Festival: Celtic & Scottish
~ Old English Hymns ~ Aboriginal ~ Maritime ~ French ~ Cowboy ~ Appalachian
~ Afro American ~ Blues ~ Contemporary Folk ~ and Gospel.
They obviously are looking
forward to leading their "sittin' in the shade" fellow travellers on a
vicarious "Coles Notes" journey through the evolution of North American
Folk Music. (No doubt their longtime experience in their other careers
in academia as teachers and university profs has had some influence here.)
Bill and Sue-On are also
looking forward to showcasing many of their musical friends -- some of
the top musicians in WestMan, including son Robin on bass & drums and
daughter China-Li on Celtic harp & electronic pipes with Mitsuo Sawabe
on 5-string bluegrass banjo & congas and Jim Andrey on drums.
