THEY GREW NOT OLD During the course of the Second World War, thousands of Canadian Women and Men joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. By the end of WWII, these volunteers -- plus existing members and many citizens from the United States of America -- combined to make the R.C.A.F. the fourth largest air force in the world. Canadians also joined the Royal Air Force, the Fleet Air Arm and Ferry Command. Over 19,000 lost their lives between September of 1939 and August of 1945.
