The MACA - MANITOBA ASSOCIATION OF COUNTRY ARTS - ENTERTAINERS OF THE YEAR TROPHY
on display here is similar to the one we won in 1980.

We later had more nominations for the same award, songwriter of the year, female singer of the year, etc. We performed at numerous MACA Award nights through the '80s - often with headliners such as George Strait, George Hamilton IV, Eddy Raven, etc.  I also served on the MACA board of directors in the '80s. Lewis Kaselitz (founder of the Boggy Creek Music Festival) and I often flew in together for the board meetings.

News of our first award was picked up by the press across Canada - there was even a short news story clip of the presentation on CBC-TV National News which I video taped off the network.

The vinyl LP on display here is our sixth album
(explore the links below to learn more about it):
BILL AND SUE-ON: THE HILLMAN EXPRESS TRACK 15
Bill wrote all the words and music, handled the production/arrangements, did most of the photography, and designed the album covers.
Album Cover Description
This is a concept album made up of two parts: I. PRAIRIE TO SOHO and II. PRAIRIE SAGA recorded in Winnipeg (Century 21 Studios) and London (Gooseberry Studios). Bill did all the guitars and Sue-On did most of the drums and percussion. We sang all the vocals and harmonies and augmented our sound with bandmates and session players from Manitoba and England.

More memories of our England tours and recording sessions are documented at:

THE HILLMAN / UK CONNECTION

Web features on all 12 of our albums - complete with original lyrics, cover and insert art and photos, MP3 downloads, credits, anecdotes, etc. are found at:

HILLMAN PHOTO USED IN THE POD MURALS
The photo of us displayed on the mural was a publicity shot we took previous to our NW USA Grandstand Show tour in 1974. We were the featured act on the shows, backed up with other acts from our American agent, Bardine Productions. Most of the acts were based in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Many of them had toured Asia with the Bob Hope Show for the US military and had worked the Ed Sullivan Show: comedians, dancers, illusionists, singers, acrobats, ventriloquists, etc.

For this tour, Sue-On opened on drums and then came up front with me so we could work the large outdoor stages together. Barry Forman played bass and was featured on rock, old-time and Cajun fiddle numbers.

Bill and Sue-On Hillman:
On Stage in England England's Desperado
Desperado were an Eagles-style showband that had featured Paul Rodgers before he went on to Free and Bad Company. We added session man Alan Clark (of Dire Straits) on synths, clavinet and piano (actually Elton John's Honky Chateau upright purchased at a London auction. Sue-On played on many of the drum tracks (Keith Moon's drums purchased at the same auction). Side 2 (Teeside) is made up of original songs, some of which were released as charted singles. All sides were recorded at England's Guardian Studios.
