I went to the school on the base and still have the certificate
and medallion that
I think all Manitoba school children got to commemorate
the Coronation in the summer of 1953.
The area was completely bleak in 1953, with almost no
trees or bushes at all.
In 2012 I went back to have a look at the base and the
picture of my Mother proudly in front of our Nash
is taken from the spot that I took the last picture,
where clearly there has been quite a growth of trees and general vegetation.
In ’53 the only thing that the lightning could go for
was telegraph poles!
Many memories of that time but not good enough to recall
my classmates
(I was not 6 until October ’53 but was allowed to go
to school all that year as a concession
since I had already had 2 years of schooling)
